Ageism Activist - No one should ever be told they are too old!

Ageism is alive and well.  We see it in the Card section of the grocery store. We see it is how youth treat older people. We see it in the workplace with comments like "He has too much experience. She is too old to learn the technology. I can't hire them, they will want too much money and my job". We see it in healthcare with medical professionals that "old speak" to their patients and doctors who dismiss potentially serious pains and problems to "getting old".  What none of these people realize is that they will be "old" someday too.

I work with HR professionals to incorporate Ageism into their company Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Programs. I educate Healthcare professionals on how to avoid "Old Speak" and improve their bedside manner when working with older patients. I speak on Ageism in the workplace and Ageism in Healthcare

I stumbled into the "business of aging" when my father had a stroke. We didn’t know anything about strokes, we didn’t know how to care for him and we had never had to figure out Rehab, PT, Home Care, Equipment Rental, etc.  There was no manual and we did not know where to get help.  How was that possible? We all age and he was not the first person to have a stroke!

At that moment, I decided that I would commit to helping others with navigating the challenges of aging! I have worked as a caregiver, owned a Home Care business and I have helped families navigate the challenges of living with chronic conditions.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a chronic condition or disease and you don't know how to plan for and navigate the future, I can help! I work with families to map out a plan by having the tough conversations - like when is it ok to take the car keys away?

Aging Advocate - If you are "Anti-Aging" are you "Pro-Death"?

We are programmed from a young age to believe aging something to avoid and hide. That younger is better and older is bad/frail. We shame age and aging should not be shameful!

Aging is a gift that not all of us get to experience. It starts the minute we are born and does not stop until we are, well, dead. So if you are "anti-aging" are you "pro death"?   Every day, I am grateful for the chance to get up and live another day. I want to change the way people think of older.

My wrinkles have been earned from lots of laughter, wonderful beach vacations, some scowling and many smiles. My gray hair is completely normal. None of those things take away my abilities, knowledge, experience and expertise.

I advocate for making aging normal. For ensuring that we have the care and support we need when we are older. For respect. For dignity in aging.
